New 474PS Porsche Cayenne revealed

Porsche has unveiled the updated Cayenne SUV with revised looks, a much more digitised interior, updated powertrains and a reduced range. The big news? The Cayenne Turbo is no more. The Turbo GT does live on, but sadly it’s not being sold in Europe.

The base Cayenne retains its twin-turbo V6, albeit with a small bump in power to 353PS (260kW), which is also the ICE in the hybrid, which bumps to a 470PS (346kW) combined output. The new hybrid also gets a bigger 25.9kWh battery for a boosted 55-mile WLTP-rated electric-only range.

What's strange, given the Turbo was dropped for emissions, is that the Cayenne S has now dropped its V6 for the 474PS (349kW) 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8. V8-powered GTS and Turbo S E-Hybrids are expected to join the new Cayenne range in due course.

The changes in terms of design are pretty predictable. It’s sharper, more angular, with slimmer light units and more pointy DRLs. At the rear, the light bar has gotten a bit slimmer and more aggressive. All in all it’s more in-line with the family look of the Taycan and forthcoming Macan EV.

On the inside things get very ‘Taycan’, too. Porsche’s new ‘Driver Experience’ cockpit debuts, with a 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment display and an optional 10.9-inch display for the passenger.

Like the Taycan too, the gear selector has moved up beside the steering wheel, freeing up space down below. Happily, a few physical controls are retained for the climate control, below the vents. Down here is where you’ll find the class Cayenne grab handles and some freed-up storage space too.

Order books are open now for the new Cayenne, with deliveries beginning in July of this year. Prices are up as you might expect, with the V6, E-Hybrid and V8 S priced from £67,400, £76,800 and £80,800 respectively. The Coupe remains too, with prices higher than equivalent SUVs by around £3,000.
